7 Ways To Celebrate International Women's Day

7 Ways To Celebrate International Women's Day

Want an excuse to celebrate and champion the amazing women in your life and in the world? You certainly don’t ever need an excuse to shower the wonderful women in your life with love - but we have one for you anyway…. International Women’s Day!

While we love to celebrate women all year round, March (and in particular March 8th) is our favourite day to reflect on how far we’ve come as women, what gaps are still present, and what we need and can do to advocate and celebrate women so we can create a world we all love.

This International Women’s day is all about #EmbraceEquity and we’re all for it here at Glow & Gifts. We’ve been brainstorming ways we can celebrate this theme so we can help in creating not just an equal world, but an equitable one. And, hooly dooley, have we thought of some doozies.

If you need a lil’ inspo for how to celebrate and support women this International Women’s Day with the gals in your life and your workplace, then we’ve got you covered:

1. IWD Events
2. Mentoring girls and women
3. #EmbraceEquity photo challenge
4. Raise money for female focused charities
5. Book club
6. Coffee dates
7. Acknowledge the amazing women in your life

IWD Ideas For Your Gal Besties

#1. IWD Brunchin’ and Lunchin’ Events

Grab the gals together and go to one of your local IWD brunches, lunches or canape events. These events will pump you up with so much motivational juice as you hear from amazing women who have travelled down that #EmbraceEquity path already and share words of wisdom, inspiring stories and heartfelt words about all they’ve experienced. It’ll pump you and the gals up so much that you’ll be itching to take action and create a better world where everyone is equitable. We promise, the speakers at these events will set your heart on fire with their stories of resilience, courage and passion.

There’s so many events in every major city, we’ve listed a few below:

    - Perth: Fusion/Social Club IWD event or She's On The Money Breakfast
    - Sydney: Business Chicks IWD Breakfast or She's On The Money Breakfast
    - Melbourne: Creative Womens Circle IWD Lunch or She's On The Money Breakfast
    - Brisbane: Ladies Who Long Lunch or She's On The Money Breakfast
    - Adelaide: Business SA Luncheon or City of Salisbury IWD Cocktail Hour

      #2. Mentor Other Gals

You and your besties have so much knowledge that you could share with other women in the world. Why not volunteer at one of these associations? You could be the next mentor for:

      - Fearless Women: help young girls to create a space for them to boost their confidence and have some fun
      - Warrior Woman: help young adults transition into the world of adulthood easily and confidently
      - She Mentors: help fellow female peers improve their life using the skills you have

Volunteering and connecting with other women in the world can make a big impact. It could be volunteering to help coach a young girls sports team or at a women’s shelter. The knowledge and support you have could make a world of difference to another woman’s life and help bridge the equity gap.

IWD Ideas For The Gals In Your Workplace

      #1. #EmbraceEquity Photo Challenge

The organisers of International Women’s Day are encouraging businesses and companies to show support this year and encourage staff to take a photo of themselves in the IWD pose and share it on social media with the hashtag #IWD2023 and #EmbraceEquity. The pose is super simple: give yourself a hug. So get the gals (and everyone else!) together and snap a picture for your company's socials in awareness and solidarity.

#2. Raise Money For Female Focused Charities

If you’re looking for a way to make a difference, then get the work gals together and fundraise for a charity that focuses on supporting and empowering women. There are so many companies doing amazing things for women around the world:

Impact for Women: helping women and children flee violence
Women for Women: helping women who are survivors of war and get them out of poverty
Malala Fund: helping give girls an education around the world
Dress for Success: helping women achieve economic independence

There are so many charities focused on the well-being of women. You can check out a long list here: Secret Sisterhood.

      IWD Ideas For Every Gal

For all gals, no matter if they’re your work gals, life gals, family gals or the gals in your community.

      #1. Female Empowered Book Club

Want to get inspired this International Women’s Day? Then what better way than to get the gals together and form a female empowered book club. Each month you can read an inspiring story about a woman's journey through hardship, success and heartfelt learnings.

Some of our favourite empowering books to get you started:

        Untamed by Glennon Doyle
        Educated by Tara Westover
        Becoming by Michelle Obama
I Am Malala: The Story of the Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban by Malala Yousafzai

#2. Coffee Date With The Gals

This International Women’s Day, set up a coffee date with a coworker, a friend or a family member, and instead of the usual chinwag while sipping on your chai latte, use this date to get deep and reflect on being a woman. Ask each other these questions and be really amazed and touched by your gals answers:

            - What inspirational women have positively impacted you in your career, and what’s the one lesson that had the biggest impact?
            - How have you managed to balance your career, personal life and time to look after yourself?
            - If you could go back, what advice would you give to your 12 year old self?

#3. Celebrate The Amazing Women In Your Life

This International Women’s Day, I encourage you to tell at least one woman how much of an impact they have had on your life. It doesn’t have to be much, even a sincere “I’m so grateful you’re in my life” would mean the absolute world to them and fill their day with so much love. And that kind of love? It’s super contagious and is guaranteed to have a knock on effect on other women in their life, too.

This International Women’s Day, no matter where you are or who you’re with, celebrate, support and stand up for gals all around the world and let’s get us one step closer to #EmbraceEquity.
